Accidental Mouseketeer

Leonard Maltin says:  If you grew up watching THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB, as I did, you'll enjoy learning about Lonnie's show-business adventures from childhood on. He talks about early days on live and filmed television, how he was chosen to join the Club, what it was like on the set and around the Disney studio and what he's been up to ever since -- including scores of stage and television appearances."

from www.originalmmc.com: "This an easy book to read... After a few chapters Tristram Shandy came to my mind, though I think the author would regard Proust rather than Sterne as an exemplar. His frequent discursive asides, which always just manage to meander back to the mainstream at chapter's end, are his own unique style however, as are bawdy anecdotes..."

from Sam Genneway (Samland's Disney Adventures):  "Of course, I was most interested in events and impressions related to the Mickey Mouse Club. The book goes well beyond those experiences, as it should since it represents some 60 years of performing professionally...the book gives a unique perspective on one of the most influential television shows in history."

from "RateItAll": "Burr talks about how it feels to have brought happiness to so many people of multiple generations -- since that original show ran in every decade into the 2000s.  By turns serious, funny and charming the book is a must-read for every fan of the Mickey Mouse Club, 50s and 60s TV and film and of the life of a working actor who is also an intelligent, well-educated man, unsparing of himself and -- unlike many 'show biz' memoirs -- discreet about others."

 4th Birthday, 40th Birthday

And then you realize
that it is not forever
that it is not fair
that it is not
                a ride on a pony
                a birthday cake
                a romance.

And then you realize
that you are alone
that you will die
that your dreams are
whiffs
the spider’s last web.

And then you realize
that they lied to you
(not from guile but fear)
that you must find
what truth there is
for yourself.

And then you realize
that sound and sight
fury and malaise
are but one.

And then you realize
that you must create

                a ride on a pony
                a birthday cake
                romance.

        In the canebrake

        the tiger

        hot breath and lightning.

        Behind the door

        the woman

        cold breath

The Pattern Least Taken

That fifth bird from the end
            not quite in sequence
is mine to cherish.

The pinkish-orange sky
met solemnly by the rolling
gray-blue ocean crests,
frames all sight.

The matting of the hills
and horizon are transients
such as we, you and I.

The artists are the waves
            and that one lone bird.
